The Inside Scoop...
In addition to modification of the transmission tunnel, we
are going to add a dash extension. One of the problems with a stock-style
32 dash is that it doesn't provide a place for additional switches and controls,
especially if you install a Vintage Air defrost or AC unit. The extension
also helps to hide hoses, wiring, and other components that you may want
to mount behind the dash.
Wilwood's double swing clutch & brake system helps reduce
the clutter behing the dash by allowing the master cylinders to be mounted
outside the firewall.
The holes cut into the dash extension are for the Vintage
Vir controls and vents. There is also one for the steering column.
Behind the Glide Engineering seat we are installing a hidden
compartment for the battery and other accessories.
The convertible top on the Dearborn body folds down behind
the seat and is kept out of view by the pieces indicated by the arrows.
From the factory these pieces are plastic and are a bit larger than you
see here. Because of the changes we've made, they proved to be too large,
so we redid them in metal in such a way as to work with our modifications
and still do the job they were intended for.
The gas tank will be going in the trunk. To help out at the
pump we have installed a pop-up gas cap manufactured by Grunion Fabrications.
