Out with the old...
All you MOPAR fans out there must be in heaven right now.
It may be 50 years old, but that hunk of iron we just pulled out would give
many of today's powerplants a run for the money. By the way, it won't be
going back in. We will be installing in a new crate Hemi that puts out about
twice the rated horsepower of this old veteran.
In order to get the 300 ready for it's new powerplant, we
will need to modify the front end to handle it. The engine compartment has
plenty of room, but the front clip on this car just won't cut it and needs
to be replaced with one that can handle the extra weight and power.
To do this we need to remove the fenders and grill. To keep
everything together and properly aligned for later re-fitting to the new
front end, we remove them as a unit. We also need to take a few measurements
while it is off.
