Chevy 3100 / SSR, Truck Bed Wood Kit
This conversion just wouldn't be complete if we did not add
an authentic wood bed to the SSR. To do that we ordered a wood bed kit from
MAR-K.
Normally, these kits are used to replace the original wood
be that came with the truck. Since cutting out the sheet metal truck bed
is not really an option, we are going to place the wood kit over the top
of the metal bed surface.
Like most late model pickup trucks, the bed on the SSR has
raised ridges to facilitate loading and unloading. To complicate matters,
they stop well short of the sides and end of the bed. To ensure a solid
mounting surface, Scott fills in the gaps with plywood.

To cover the exposed edges of the wood, Scott hand fabricated
and fitted stainless steel beauty strips. Not only do they look good, they
will protect the wood and help prevent splintering or splitting. The wood
will be stained and varnished before final assembly.
