Custom Dash
Ever wonder how to make a sculpted, custom dash? Here's one
way.
To get that sculpted, wrap-around look to include the doors,
first construct it as one piece. That edge moulding is created by cutting
a piece of pipe cut in half. The sheet metal is welded flush to the
edges of pipe on top so that it will appear perfectly coved when finished.
The sheet metal is trimmed, fitted and clamped into place
so it can be welded to the supports. All of this is done with the Vintage
Air AC unit in place to be sure there is clearance.
Posterboard is used to make templates for cutting the sheet
metal. At this point, the sheet metal is now one continuous piece, from
dash to door. When the fabricator is satisfied that he has everything right,
he will cut it apart at about the point where the arrow indicates.
Now for the other side.
