How to install AC, 101

"So, then the customer said he wanted air installed in his 29 as well...." And then the fun starts. Its like that old joke about stuffing 10lb of stuff in a 5lb bag. How are you going to get it all to fit?

Our mission is to install this ComPac Gen II AC with defrost into Mr. Hale's 29. No Problem. First we'll build a bracket, then... we'll discover there's no way it's going to fit using the factory supplied ducts. And here's where we really earn our money.

After puzzling over it for a bit Mike comes up with a solution--make our own ducts using square steel tubing. First, Mike fabricates collars to fit the duct inserts on the back of Gen II. He then slathers marking ink on the back of the tubing so it will mark the spots he will weld the collars to.

Making ducts with the square tubing will save us 2-3 three inches behind the dash. With the collars tack-welded in place, they are checked to see if they fit securly and do not interfere with anything.
