3x2's to The Wall

The engine is a 383ci "Enforcer 385" crate motor supplied by American Speed in Moline, Illinois. It is a small-block GM 4-bolt main block with a one piece rear seal. It has a cast steel crankshaft and 9.5:1 compression ratio forged aluminum TRW pistons. It also has aluminum Edelbrock performer heads and a Crane model 278 hydraulic cam. Other details include an MSD ignition system, 1-5/8 inch Sanderson Block Hugger headers and Edelbrock aluminum water pump. Brackets and pulleys are by Bill's Hot Rod Company.

Induction is handled by an Offenhauser aluminum intake manifold and three Rochester 2G carburetors modified and prepared by the now defunct Hot Rod Carburetion, Inc. Synchronizing a 3x2 carb arrangement is usually a pain, which is why solid linkage like that shown here is always a good buy.

This combination dyno tested at 362 BHP at 4700 RPM and 460 lb-ft of Torque at 3300 RPM. Torque exceeds 400 lbs-ft from 2600 RPM to 4800 RPM. Peak horsepower was limited by the reletively small runners in the Offenhauser manifold. Although a modern 4-barrel would provide more horsepower, the look of three two-barrels was considered a fair tradeoff. These torque and horsepower figures should be adequate for the reletively lightweight Model A.

Moving the engine back to accomodate the radiator and fan means modifying the firewall. One change always leads to another.

There we go.
