1939 Pontiac Woodie, Disassembly.
The first step in this top to bottom restoration is the disassembly.
At this time everything will be removed, tagged and bagged. An assesment
will be made of each part to determine if it can be repaired and reused,
or if it needs to be replaced. The vehicle will also be thoroughly photographed
to record where everything went and how it went together (detailed assembly
manuals on these vintage autos are hard to come by).
While disassembly continues, the front fenders will go straight
over to the body shop where repair work can begin.
A closer look at that big straight-six motor.
Man that's a lot of wood!
Except for the roof slats, most of the wood looks like all
it needs is a little sanding and a new coat of varnish. We will try to salvage
as much as we can so we don't have to re-body the whole car, but time has
taken it's toll in some areas.
